How long does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop? This was a question asked to a wise old owl on a commercial when I was young.
I remember in my twenties having a conversation with a friend about ‘what would we possibly do in heaven’? There seemed only so much before boredom would set in. I would hear stories and read how saints in times past would spend hours in prayer, and remember wondering what on earth they would talk about to Jesus for that length of time.…
Yep, that was back when the hard crusty shell was still around the soft center.
This morning as I was praying, I thought to myself how marvelous it would be to have a whole day where I could lay aside all thoughts of everything else and just have one on one conversation with my Lord, the whole day, just the two of us! It was in that moment I realized that it took almost 30 years to get to that core! The gentleness and patience of the Holy Spirit is beyond amazing! I am so sad that it took me this long to yield to His work in me, and yet so grateful He will never give up!
“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6 NASB
“Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change.” 2 Peter 3:8-9 MSG
