I was thinking about breath this morning. No, not morning breath!
As I was flipping through my prayer notebook to get to an empty page, I stumbled across this thing I had written a while back. Reading it again I thought ‘oh wow, that was good! I have no recollection of writing that. Hmph.’
Breathing is like that in a way, I thought. I have breathed in and out from the moment of my birth. Sometimes calm, steady breaths; sometimes deep, sometimes gasping, or letting out lengthy sighs. But I don’t remember the details of each and every breath. Only that I needed all of them, and without them would not be here!
So it is with prayer and communication with the Holy Spirit. Prayer is like the breath in my lungs! As I learn to breathe prayers in and out all day, every day, I may not remember every specific detail of something He breathed back into me days, weeks, months, years ago. But I remember the impact, and that I needed every. last. one.
Prayer is our spiritual breath! We breathe in what the Holy Spirit shares, and we breathe out praise back to Him.
Oh Holy Spirit, breathe your breath in me! May You consume my thoughts! May I be yielded to You – clay in Your hands! Captivate me, O God, so that I seek You more than I seek Your blessings! May my purpose on this earth be wrapped up in You, for You are LIFE!
1 Thessalonians 5:16 – 19 – Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit.
Psalms 34:1,2 – I bless God every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise. 2I live and breathe God…
Acts 17: 28 – For in him we live, and move, and have our being…
Ezekiel 37:9 (MSG) – He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath. Prophesy, son of man. Tell the breath, ‘God, the Master, says, Come from the four winds. Come, breath. Breathe on these slain bodies. Breathe life!’”
